How Counselling Helps

Counselling can provide an opportunity to talk openly to someone, who will listen, without judgement and help you to explore your emotions and issues/challenges.

Counselling can help you to see your issues and problems in a different way, sometimes more clearly or from a different perspective.
I have had experience of working with clients with a range of issues, such as:

bereavement, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, family and relationship problems, bullying, self harm and anger.

.As a former nurse, I can support people with health related issues such as:

Disability, Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, Pregnancy, Cancer.

About Me and How I Work With You

I am a warm, gentle-natured, caring, friendly and approachable person.

I came to counselling from a 25 year nursing career, having recognised my desire to be able to provide greater emotional help to individuals.

I am a humanistic, relational counsellor, which means that I work in a client-centred way, with you, the client at the heart. We will work together, at your pace, to explore the issues that bring you to counselling, whether short or longer term.

I believe that everyone has, within them, the resources to heal and grow, but sometimes we can lose sight of them, for various reasons.

Humanistic counselling can help us to reconnect with this inner part of ourselves, to know and understand our self better and to work towards a happier, more contented life, with more confidence.

I have a further qualification and special interest in Attachment Based Therapy (also known as Attachment focused therapy).

Attachment- focused Therapy

I have a special interest in helping individuals whose problems may stem from their early experiences with their care-givers.

If appropriate to do so, exploring these attachments in early life can help us to make sense of who you are today and help to recognise patterns that may be holding you back or causing you distress and which you may wish to modify or change.
What is Attachment?

"Attachment is the way we form emotional bonds with those close to us. We are born evolutionally primed to attach to our caregivers to ensure survival.

If all goes well in childhood and adolescence, we are made to feel safe and secure and our feelings are noticed, taken seriously and understood enough of the time, then we form secure attachments to our caregivers."
